The new school year is just around the corner, and local children from Community’s Child, 1736 Family Crisis Center, All People’s Community Center and students represented by the TFS Field organization are heading back to school prepared and in style!
Thanks to many generous associates and business partners across TFS HQ, over 450 Los Angeles area students were adopted and given the tools they need to start the school year off right. Over 60 TFS HQ volunteers stuffed backpacks with piles of school supplies purchased by associates. In addition, TFS associated from around the country also purchased supplies and over 2,500 backpacks for the organizations they support in their local communities!
According to the Alliance for Excellent Education and the U.S. Census, 40% of children living in poverty aren’t prepared for primary schooling, and dropout rates for 16-24 year olds living in low income situations are seven times more likely to drop out of school than those from families with higher incomes. By donating much needed school supplies, TFS associates will help local children remove a barrier so they may focus on the important job of learning.
Deserving children, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, and their appreciative families attended back to school parties at their organizations to receive their school supplies. Each child received an age-appropriate backpack stuffed with paper, pencils, markers, rulers, highlighters, glue sticks and much more. TFS associates were on hand to distribute the backpacks and wish the children success and encouragement for the upcoming school year.
Each year, TFS associates donate time, money and school supplies to children who otherwise do not have the financial means to prepare for the school year ahead. This year was no different. The Back to School Drive is a win-win for everyone involved. Associates appreciate the opportunity to support their community, and children receiving backpacks are prepared and excited for the school year ahead. We wish all of the children great success!
