Earlier this spring, more than 350 Toyota Financial Services (TFS) team members from the company’s Torrance, Calif. headquarters joined together to make a difference in the lives of 1,000 local elementary school teachers.
Team members gathered at a local park after the company’s annual meeting to roll up their sleeves for teachers. In just over 30 minutes, the dedicated team members packed 1,000 bags full of classroom supplies, including everything from pens and pencils to Clorox wipes and tissues. Each bag also included a thank-you note from the TFS team member who packed it.
From the park, all the bags were hand-delivered by team members to 31 elementary schools in Torrance, Lawndale, Gardena, and Hawthorne, while additional supplies were donated to Los Angeles Education Partnership and Plaza de la Raza.
“At TFS, we are focused on youth development and education,” said Amy K. Taylor, TFS community relations senior administrator. “Our youth cannot achieve academic success without teachers, who are often paying out of their own pockets for essential classroom supplies. Our hope is that these supplies will make the teachers’ lives easier and at the same time, it gives TFS the opportunity to say thank you for their ongoing commitment to today’s youth.”
Teachers and principals were overwhelmed with joy to receive the kits. “Our teachers were so excited to receive these bags – and the neatest part of this were the personal notes handwritten by the Toyota employees,” said Arlington Elementary Principal Vicki Hath.
Marcia Sidney-Reed, principal at 186th Street Elementary School in Gardena added, “Seeing the joy on our teachers’ faces when they received the gift was a sight to behold. My students were extremely proud to see their teachers happy.”
The TFS team members exceeded expectations when it came to packing and delivering the kits. Approximately 90 minutes had been allowed for packing and three hours for delivery, but the enthusiastic volunteers managed to have all 1,000 kits assembled and packed into the delivery vehicles in approximately 30 minutes and delivered within 90 minutes. It was another great showing of TFS’ dedication to the community.
