On February 14, 2016 the TFS Customer Service Center East (CSCE), celebrated their 10th year of sponsoring WJZ’s (local CBS affiliate) Salute to Heritage Oratory Competition at the Reginald F. Lewis museum in downtown Baltimore. 20 Baltimore-area students were chosen to deliver essays from memory about famous African American leader quotes. This year, the quotes were from Martin Luther King Jr., Misty Copeland and Maya Angelou.
CSCE team members have been involved in the event every year. Maisha Robinson, a Team Leader in Collections, volunteered as a judge, “To witness the hard work and effort these students put into their oratory speeches was an honor and nothing short of amazing.” John Ridgeway, Corporate Manager of CSCE, spoke at the opening session and is extremely proud of the centers’ community involvement. “The Oratory Contest is one of many examples of how CSCE supports the community in which it serves. It’s more than making a monetary donation. It’s about getting involved.”
Toyota Financial Services awards the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners with scholarships in the amounts of $2,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively. This year’s winner, Paris Walker, a senior at South River High School, plans to attend Temple University in the fall. She says she hopes to become a doctor one day–just like her mother.
