The new school year is in full swing, and local children from Community’s Child, 1736 Family Crisis Center, All People’s Community Center, Boys & Girls Club of Carson, and students represented by the TFS Field organization headed back to school well prepared and in style!
Thanks to many generous associates and business partners across TFS headquarters, over 680 local students from the Los Angeles area were ‘adopted’ and given the tools they need to start the school year off right. TFS Field organizations also donated over 2,600 backpacks to local organizations they support. In total, TFS associates and business partners donated over 3,300 backpacks filled with supplies to deserving kids. That’s 22% more than last year!
According to the 2014 Children’s Defense Fund Education Report, more than 75% of lower-income 4th to 8th grade public school students could not read or compute at grade level, compared to 52% or less of higher-income students. Plus, over half a million public school students dropped out of grades 9-12 during the school year. By donating much needed school supplies, TFS associates are helping local children remove a barrier, so they can focus on the important job of learning.
These children, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade, and their families attended back-to-school parties at their organizations, where they received an age-appropriate backpack stuffed with paper, pencils, markers, rulers, highlighters, glue sticks, and much more. TFS associates were on hand to distribute the backpacks, and to wish the children success and encouragement for the upcoming school year.
Each year, TFS associates across the country donate time, money, and school supplies to children who otherwise do not have the financial means to prepare for the school year ahead. We wish all of the children great success in their studies!
